Nerys Mutlow

Nerys Mutlow
Head of Cloud Solution SaaS

What makes Fujitsu unique to work for?

Fujitsu invests heavily in developing its own IP and in establishing partnerships with both large and small enterprises across the globe. This investment in innovation coupled with the responsible and human focus Fujitsu emphasises in its offerings means I can work with cutting edge technologies to deliver solutions with integrity that have a positive impact in our world.

What is the best experience you’ve had working for Fujitsu?

Hard to pick just one so being recognised  as a Fujitsu Distinguished engineer and co-creating with this community on a number of customer challenges and presenting live our solutions leveraging RFID, Augmented Reality and SaaS at a conference of 15000 people.

What do you do in your spare time?

I love spending time with my family including 2 small children especially when we can get out on our bikes or off skiing.

Who, or what, inspires you?

Ruth Leach Amonette – first female president of IBM in 1943 at only 27. An impressive achievement now but to do this so many years ago in such a male dominated world is truly inspirational.

Have you had different roles in Fujitsu?  What were these and how did your career path change?

Started with Fujitsu 2.5 years ago in SaaS offerings and then took upon the SaaS CTO role helping to define the strategy and delivery for the team before moving into the Head of SaaS role in October 2016.  I believe a combination of the right attitude and demonstrating value and delivering results rapidly in all engagements led to be being recognized and given more responsibility.

What makes Fujitsu unique to work for?

I believe that Fujitsu is one of the few companies that focus on human centric innovation. To put the value of the society in focus make that unique and made me proud to be part of that.

Have you had different roles in Fujitsu?  What were these and how did your career path change?  I started as a technician within Fujitsu’s professional services team and have been in the field supporting our customers in their data center. Two years later, I got the role to lead that team for the period of 3 years. I was then promoted to lead the Data Center sales team for Fujitsu in Sweden. One year later, I was delighted to be asked to manage the whole Data Center Sales business in the Scandinavian countries.

What makes Fujitsu unique to work for?

The people.  I have worked for other IT companies and nowhere have I found people to be as helpful, collaborative and supportive as they have been at Fujitsu.

Who, or what, inspires you?

The people I work with in my role.  Seeing people who are great but don’t believe it grow into assured, confident individuals with the best interests of the organization at heart is a real privilege.

How do you manage a good work/life balance?

I’m very fortunate that Fujitsu has let me define the way I need to work to achieve this and ultimately it’s all about give and take.  I work part time but do more hours when I need to and in return, I make sure I attend Sports Day or am at home when I need to be.  Ultimately it’s about what you deliver not the time you spend at your laptop.

What makes Fujitsu unique to work for?

I very much like the international approach to numerous topics. It’s great to work together with colleagues from different countries on various task-positions. I also really appreciate the flexibility of my daily work. The most important is, that I get my job done, when and how is mostly up to me. As Fujitsu is in a very flexible and changing market, we need to live this flexibility day by day. Changes mean new opportunities, which may not always fit to your expectations or your agenda, but they are there and it’s up to you if you take them or not.

What is the best experience you’ve had working for Fujitsu?

There are so many different things and chances, which is very amazing. If you want to develop yourself, there are a lot of opportunities to do so, no matter if this is within your role or combined with a change of responsibilities. The development is not only about your career! There are a lot of trainings supporting you to develop yourself from a soft skill point of view.

What makes Fujitsu unique to work for?

Fujitsu is a huge global organization with a vast array of well-known clients but yet working inside you still feel part of a family, the people I work with are great and the company ethos truly puts people at the heart of the organization. The approach Fujitsu adopts is one of co-creation with its clients and aims to solve business problems – a refreshing view working in partnership with its clients. Also the breadth of the services we provide is overwhelming and truly makes you feel that no matter what we can help or clients achieve their goals. Fujitsu is one of the few organizations I know that is truly innovative and at the leading edge of today’s digital world.

Who, or what, inspires you?

What makes Fujitsu unique to work for?
Definitely our Japanese heritage that reflects into Fujitsu business culture and values. Another unique thing is our global strength that is amazing to feel and be a part of.

If starting your career again, what’s the one thing you would tell your future self?
Not to think too much about your education and your background, as in the end, it’s not the most important thing when it comes to how you fit into a certain role. Instead, think about how you can combine specific parts of your education with the role you are interested in.

In under 10 words, describe your future vision for the company?
Make companies and/or communities smarter, digital and environmentally aware through new IT solutions.

What part will you play in achieving this?
Build strong and long-term relationship with my customers. By understanding my customers business, needs and challenges. Fujitsu will then use our large organization and technical expertise to find solutions that increase business advantages.
